Family Business Leadership in Australia

Family Business Insights State Conference 2025 I Statewide Oil

On 23 September 2025, the Family Business Insights – State Conference WA 2025 brought together the local family business community for a day of connection, sharing, and growth. The main organiser, Family Business Association (FBA), is a national organisation dedicated to shaping Australia’s future through a dynamic and successful family business sector.

Todd Pearson, Managing Director of Statewide Oil was honoured to be one of the key speakers, presenting on the topic ‘From Olympic Gold to Generational Leadership’. He shared his remarkable journey as both a Sydney 2000 Olympic Gold Medallist in swimming and the leader of one of the largest Mobil lubricants distributors in the Asia-Pacific, founded by his father, Bob Pearson, in 1985.

During his session, Todd discussed how the values he learned in sports such as resilience, teamwork, and leadership under pressure, shape his approach to business, family life, and succession. His keynote set a powerful tone for the day, delivering a simple but profound message: “Manage with genuine care”. Drawing on his experience working alongside his father and navigating generational transition, Todd provided insights on applying a high-performance mindset within a family enterprise. He emphasised the importance of discipline, trust, and purpose-driven leadership for established family businesses and next-generation leaders.

Family Business Association (FBA) recognises that 70% of all businesses in Australia are family owned. These enterprises bring a significant impact on the growth of the Australian economy. Since 1985, Statewide Oil has been a family-values-based company, supporting Australian communities and businesses as their oil and lubricants supplier.
